Is been about 5 years since I got my computer and I am sick and tired of ordering shitty dells. "Duuuuuude you got an impossibly difficult to upgrade piece of junk with shitty customer support!" I know a fair bit about pcs and although have never built one from scratch before, I have tons of experience repairing and replacing parts for PCs. I just wanted to post the parts that I plan on ordering within the next few days. Let me know what you think about them and if you think I should change anything.

HDD
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

Video Card(Previously Bought)
EVGA 640-P2-N829-AR GeForce 8800GTS SSC 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit English for System Builders 1pk DSP OEI DVD
Various other parts, such as sound card, disc drives, etc are just going to be reused from my current PC. The only thing I wish I could change about this set up right now is the fact that when I had bought my video card I didn't get the PCI express 2.0 x16 because my comp only had reg x16 slots (I didn't realize the card is backwards compatible) I don't think it'll make a massive difference in performance though. The total price of this(w/o the vid card) is $850.

thats exactly what someone else told me, my problem is the price though. I don't really care about boot speed at all I just want the best bang for my buck in terms of performance.

oo nvm just a small one purely for bootup, hmm I may look into that once I get some more cash. Right now I am trying to save up some cash to upgrade my monitor and get a new set of bookshelf speakers.

you should see my beast monitor setup, main one is a 27" beast with pc & ps3 plugged into it and my second monitor is a previously huge 22" benq.
gotta enjoy the things you love!

looks pretty sweet to me. if i were you i would buy an extra hdd though -- get a 37 gig raptor as your os drive. You'll notice an increase in boot speed and that the os is gust generally a little bit more responsive.
