This game has got to be the best single player RPG I have played. If you are the type of person who actually enjoyed WoW PvE in its prime, but hated all the retards doing dumb shit during raids, this is the perfect game for you.

You control up to 4 characters at once, each with their own unique skills and specializations that are incredibly diverse. There are three main standard classes, warrior, rogue, and mage. Each of these classes has 4 specializations in which you can train an level up two of them. The combat works exactly like WoW pve, but since you are controlling all of the characters, it is in the form of a RTS. You can manage your character's actions in a variety of ways. They have a tactic system which is much like the gambit system of ff12, but much much more comprehensive. A tactic is a conditional response with you can program your character to carry out. For example on my tank I have the tactics set as "Target Enemy attacking Ally X, Attack" since he has a Threaten aura on which generates aggro to the enemies he attacks the tank will pretty much run around on autopilot grabbing aggro off of any of the enemies attacking someone other than him in the party. There are more than enough conditions and responses, as well as already programmed presets, in this game to allow for you to program the AI of your group to function in whatever way you want them to. This being said, the game in no way is easy enough for you to just let your characters run around on autopilot beating the shit out of everything. The most important aspect of the game is the pause option. Since what you are controlling 4 characters simultaneously that each have as many skills as a character in WoW would have, it is impossible to have them all act accordingly in real-time, especially considering the fact that one slip up could wipe your group. The pause option allows you to stop combat so you can enter menus and select skills, use potions, etc. The harder the difficulty you play on and the less comprehensive your tactics are, the more you are going to need to be pausing during battles. For example, I fought one boss that just charges up ridiculous aoe spells that will 2 shot your party, meanwhile hes got a few melee minions and another support mage healing, buffing and cleansing him. To beat this guy I had to sit my tank on the boss and interrupt his spell casts with sheild bashes and stuns, use my mage and rogue and dps warrior to take out the support while CCing the melee. Finish off the melee and then take out the boss. The fights in this game are every bit as complex as any of the end game in WoW (before they made everything a joke). And since you are in complete control of your group, you can't complain that the tank didn't know how to hold aggro and use his interrupts intelligently.

Here is a warning though, I didn't know much about this game before I bought it. I thought that since you have the option of running around in 3rd person mode with WASD controls that there was going to be a ton of hack and slash action and you would be mowing down shit. While there certainly are fights with a SHITLOAD of enemies attacking you at once, very little of what I have played so far has been easy enough to run around aimlessly swinging at shit. I save after every fight because there is a very high chance that you will get beaten during the next encounter. Granted, I am playing on hard difficulty when normal is hard as shit already, and I just got a dedicated healer in my party now which has made things significantly easier. This game requires patience, you probably shouldn't bother with it if you don't want to be challenged the entire way through. Quote

Yea, I fuckin love this game. I just beat my first play through last night on normal difficulty and I have started a new game on nightmare.

I am a huge neverwinter nights fan and I enjoyed mass effect, if you didn't like either of those i don't see you liking dragon age.

-edit

I refuse to read that entire post mareg. Quote

I heard from Penny Arcade the game has quest givers that sell you expansion quests. How fucking gay is that I can't even put words to it.

Well they released 3 things of dlc already. 2 of em
come with the game. I would hardlycall it premium content. I have been playing obsessivly for almost a week now and I'm barely 1/3 of the way done. If anything I thought it was awesome to see them implementing dlc so early on, it shows that thry aren't gonna leave this title to sit and gather dust. Quote

Sounds like a terrible game to me. Quote

I killed dragons on normal and it took a good amount, especially the first one. I don't look forward to the rapefest that it will be on nightmare and I imagine I am going to be throwing shit everywhere on the final boss on nightmare.

It is kinda like onyxia but when I keep wiping there is no one to hear me freak the fuck out.

When I first beat the game it took me about 32 hours of play time and I got 52% of the game complete according to the game. So there is either a lot of shit in the game or there are some dirty nigger trick goin on. I have no addons or DLC Quote

The majority of the content in this game is shit that you would pass right by if you don't read the codex entries. For example, in that mage tower there is a series of puzzles that lead up to this ridiculously good sword that you could pass by and have absolutely no idea about. This is the type of game where the more time you put into it, the more you get out of it. I am probably 30+ hours into the game and I am nowhere near finishing. Quote

thats because you are a jew that wants all the lootz in the game Quote

yea, i read that shit but i wanted to see the story so i said fuck it. I will do it on my second play through, partly because I'm going to need that shit now. On normal I played half the game with a dagger I found in the first part of the game and I'm pretty sure I killed my first dragon with that.

I have the habit of not looking at the majority of the codex entries because that is how I had to play mass effect. Shit gives me essay papers about how every vehicle, weapon, and piece of technology works, I DON'T FUCKING CARE! Quote

That's actually one of the main reasons why Mass Effect and Dragon Age are in my top 5, lol. NWN and KOTOR 1&2 are also up there but the lack of *really* delving into the story keeps 'em behind DA:O/ME. Jade Empire was pretty good for a hack/slash game but other than that it was pretty shitty when it came to a fully developed story, etc.

Each of the named weapons in DA:O have a codex entry that's pretty long. I read every codex entry so that's probably why I haven't actually beat the game yet.. Quote

Actually its 53 hours and 24% done. I can post SS if you don't believe me lol. I've been playing on nightmare mode and reading a lot of the codex though so I am pretty much taking my sweet ass time through it. Quote

Once again, Dan has managed to deflect the need for an answer to a question by presenting completely irrelevant information Quote

Almost finished my first playthrough on normal.

Fuck dedicated healers. I play a mage, and just do tricky ninja shit like laying down huge ass aoe spells that freeze and do damage, when I'm in a completely different room.

99% of the time, I don't even take any damage.

I run Alistair, my main mage, Shale, and Lileana. Quote

Damn dude, wtf is your problem? I was answering sif. I have to respond to every single comment someone makes or I am deflecting questions? Get the fucking stick outta your ass. Well Let me make sure the god pentiums is appeased. DDan I played so much because the first week I got DA I had some time off from work so I was pretty much playing all day long and yeah unfortunately I am not playing borderlands so much anymore, been far too distracted with DA and CoD:MW2. I hope I haven't lost your trust for so blatantly avoiding your question and I hope I haven't lost your vote in the nearing jewish world take over elections. Quote

I'd vote for you Mareg.

As a friend of a jew, I'd expect special treatment and not to be put to work in your dreidel mines. Quote
