New diablo 3 class: Gay Interior Designer
With all the bright pastel colours in Diablo, it was decided that they should put the people responsible for them in the game.
The Gay Interior Designer is a force to be reckoned with in game, and you don't want to cross one that's just notice that the sheik purple satin curtains have been ruined by the lime green wallpaper.
With attacks like "Oh, no you didn't girlfriend!" and "Not in those pants, Mister", they will utterly devastate their opposition, and send them running in fear. Their only weakness is their ability to attack, which is always from behind.
As a bonus, this class can further specialize down their class tree's into three different spec's.
Full Blown Gay: A tree specializing in close range attacks and grappling.
Hair Crimped Twink: A fashionista whose attacks are based around instilling fear in their opponents, weakening their resolve by pointing out their fashion faux pas.
Fag Hag: A summoning spec, that allows the Gay Interior Designer to summon a minion that is a fat and ugly undesirable beast, that makes everyone around them faintly uncomfortable.

If 5 total classes equal Barbarian, Witch Doctor, Wizard, Monk and ??? then count me out. The Witch Doctor and Monk are two of the worst classes they could even possibly choose for their five maximum until expansions. Where is the Paladin? Where is the Assassin? Where is the Necromancer? I understand they are attempting to differentiate but really? Witch Doctor and Monk? Terribad.
I stand by my assumption that anyone who had any skill at all at game design left Blizzard long before Burning Crusade came out.

There seems to be little variation on the classes they have so far included from those of the first 2 Diablo games. 1 Melee, 1 Caster, and 2 caster/melee mixes. From what I can tell, the Witch Doctor is probably the Necro's replacement. If they are only going to have 5 classes in the release, you have to figure there will be a Rogue/Amazon character. Seeing as the Monk is a vamped-up Assassin with a staff, a beard, and a penis, I have to tip my hat at the lack of originality being presented in a long-awaited release.
I bet the two classes in the expansion will be something extra creative like the Shaman, who can utilize his bonds with natural forces to shapeshift and command elemental powers, and the Crusader, a holy knight whose divinely-inspired presence brings reassurance to his allies and hinders his enemies. IMO not impressed with D3.

You guys havent even seen how the monk works have you? It kind of hard to explain but let me try. So you have skills with 3 layers to them so they act like combos. So lets say I have a skill Burning Fist.
Burning fist:
1st part of the attack: You rush toward the enemy
2nd part (click same skill within .6 seconds): does a palm attack
3rd part: poisons the enemy that will make him explode on death
So you have .6 seconds to click the same skill to activate the second or third part of the attack. Now you can mix and match different skills and parts to each attack.
Burning Fist (1st part) --> Burning Fist (2nd) --> Cobra Strike (3rd) (does area debuff or something)
Looks really sick. Also most of the spells in this game are new so wtf are you guys talking about. And pentiums what do you want 5 melee characters to change it up? Ofcourse you have to have melee ranged caster and mixes of them. They said they only wanted to bring back the Barbarian from D2. The rest will be different. Possibly bring back some classes for the expansion. What classes would you rather them have Lusia? PSH I cant wait to play this game.

Dude that combat system is exactly like the fucking assassin. 3 hit combos based on what skills you mix and match that do stuff on the final hit. How fucking exciting. Did you ever even play D2 Steve? I wouldn't necessarily like 5 melee chars to make it "new," but jesus, Blizzard, at least make the character skill mechanics different. I think Blizzard discovered with WoW that it is way easier to just reskin and revamp old material to turn a profit than it is to expend the resources necessary for originality. I mean really:
Barbarian - Melee powerhouse, uses savagery and heavy weapons. A.K.A. Barbarian from D2, which is acceptable.
Witch Doctor - Mixed caster that uses both damaging spells and summoned creatures to do battle. A.K.A. Necromancer.
Wizard - Sorc. Nuff said.
Monk - Melee character specializing in hand-to-hand combat utilizing combinations and buildups of skills that release upon 3 hits for various added effects. A.K.A. Assassin.
Steve, I understand that D3 has been a long time coming, and will probably be fun. For a while. But I'm not at all impressed with Blizzard's lack of initiative to create actual new content.

how can say thats the same thing as the assassin roflmao. Yes its a little bit like the assassin combo system. But I have never seen in a top down diablo style rpg a system like the monks where you literally have combo moves and have to click again in a certain amount of time to produce another level of a move that does something different than the other levels. Again ill ask you what the hell do you want? This is a game where they want you to be able to do everything in the game with a regular 2 button mouse.
The assassin in D2 had finishing moves that did different things. Ok. All the charge up attacks were regular melee attacks that modified the elemental damage/life leech/ regular damage of the finishing move. Yep same exact thing as the Monk.

Maybe it's not exactly the same thing, but it is clearly just rehashing an existing combat system. Are you all excited about Thousand Needles getting flooded, too? Did you think Death Race was an original idea? Please.

Steve, I'll be the first to admit that I was on the "can't wait for D3" bandwagon but in a world where top down hack and slash RPGs are so utterly stale you really need to do a lot more than give me some spiffy combo system that I can get out of any normal MMO.
To be honest, I'm really just being pessimistic and I know I'll end up buying the game and probably play it for a couple of weeks but that's it. Unless D3 completely revolutionizes top down hack and slash RPGs, which it wont, I wont be playing it for more than a couple of weeks. Diablo 2 was awesome... 9 years ago.
As far as what I would like to see out of the game... My main concern, as with any game, is story and it's well known that the dudes behind Diablo 2's story (Blizzard North) are no longer involved in any part of the creation of Diablo 3 so it's an entirely new bunch of dudes just given the go ahead on an existing IP. That makes me extremely nervous, especially since Blizzard has not done anything exciting (to me) since before BC.
Classes though.. I hate that they stick to this 5 or 6 classes thing. It seems so amateurish that they cannot create more semi-original classes than that.
I'm jaded though, so we'll see. I don't really wanna bash a game before it's even came out and I've had a chance to play it but I have extremely low expectations.

Lusia puts his answer much more eloquently than mine. He obviously should write poetry.
That is basically all I have been trying to say, that I am not expecting great things from a game that is shaping up quickly to be another way for Blizzard to get younger gaming audiences to hook into their system of endless repetition with the hopes of "new" content to be added. I lost too much respect for Blizzard when they continued to just add non-canon instances and endless rep grinds to keep 60's interested instead of focusing on what players actually wanted to see to be won back over so easily. If Diablo 3 proves to be WC3/Frozen Throne quality gaming, in terms of replay value, if not genre, then I will retract all my previous statements and happily hook a USB cable into my carotid artery. I just don't see it happening with the way Diablo 3 is shaping up, that's all. Shit, Hellgate London is like 15 bucks with free multiplayer, and it was actually MADE by the original Diablo guys. I just can't commit that massive an amount of time to a game that may not be worth it anymore.

The company who made Hellgate London, Flagship Studios, weren't actually the main dudes behind Diablo 2 at Blizzard North. The company was founded by the head dudes from Blizz North, but the core development team from Blizz North were working on Mythos at Flagship Studio's Seattle location at the time and when the company crashed the Seattle location, along w/ the Schaefer dudes from Flagship formed Runic Games which is now working on Torchlight which looks fuckin' titties.
/history
All that said, Hellgate London had a great premise but it was executed horribly and anything other than single player was utter crap.

It's funny when you said that Witch Doctor and Monk look like shit because those look like the two classes I would want to play.
Regardless this game could be nothing more than Slideshows of Gay Sex and every single person in this forum will still purchase it so quit pretending like its somehow not good enough for you. Fantasy archetype/classes have been regurgitated over and over for decades.

Definitely not getting it, Senor Savalas. Even if I really wanted to play it, I just don't have that kind of time on my hands anymore, and Vernand is the only one I know that can handle being outleveled and outgeared by everyone they play with because they don't have enough time. I was originally really on board for the D3 paintrain, but after following the development phases, I am no longer enthused.
And yes, Hellgate London was a massive POS. That was kind of my point.
