That works both ways. My interest in various games peaks and wanes all the time, and the same will be true of all people who play WOW and WAR. New content always reignites old players/subscribers, a lack of new content always makes people start looking elsewhere.
This interviewer/developer seem to assume that once WOTLK is released there will be no other content and that people will burn through it in 3 months and be done playing. Likewise, it assumes the Warhammer's developers have an infinite fountain of new content for their subscribers.
I don't think either of these things are entirely true.

This is true.
And damn, I cant find the interview someone did with one of the lead Blizzard guys about Warhammer and how the Warhammer guys were saying some of the stuff in WotLK stole ideas from Warhammer.....LOL and ya Warhammer didnt take ANYTHING from WoW right? gtfo

That might be the case, but here is the thing. Most of us usually burn through the portion of the new content that actually interests us so damned fast. It has happened time and time again, without fail. When BC came out I know most of us lvled to 70 in a like 1-2 weeks time period and did everything else as fast as we could too. The only portion of WoW that I think is able to hold someone's interest for extended periods of time is really endgame pve, which really requires a massive time commitment (I'm not talking about kara/mag/other easy bullshit that becomes farmable in a night) or maybe arenas if you are a nigger. It is definitely inevitable that you guys will be burnt out with WoW after a few months time, maybe some of us will be somewhat burnt out with WAR too, but I know for a fact that if the people who decided to play WoTLK get bored and all want to all try out WAR (which will definitley be quite well polished a that point) my interests will be reignited, if they had even been extinguished. Not to mention the fact that I am pretty sure they have a TON more new shit to add to their game than WoW has to add in just another expansion (at least 4 new classes, 4 new capital cities, new raid instances and more). So although I'm sure their new content isn't an infinite fountain, with the incredibly innovative systems they have already incorporated, I am really looking forward to seeing what else they will do.

the case has always been that good pvp takes a long time to get boring and pve gets boring real fast. WoW has never had great pvp and in my opinion with how blizzard caters to the retards it will never have the kind of pvp that i want. I am not saying WAR has the best pvp ever(shadow bane) but I personally find it to be far superior to WoW.
You guys can go back to blizzard but I don't feel like going back to a company that has time and time again kicked me squarely in my nuts. I will stick with WAR until they give me a good solid one in the junk.

Yeah sif, this is the one thing I have to disagree with you on, blizzard is a top notch company in nearly all respects. They produce some of the highest quality games with the best gameplay and replay values out there. Heck, I still play starcraft and diablo II from time to time and even reinstalled Warcraft II a few months ago for fun. While I do find the constant class balancing and noob catering to be the biggest flaws with WoW, it is also their biggest strength and is the primary reason that the game has grown so successfully. It is hard to hold it against them for knowing what they are doing when producing a game.
That being said, I do believe the days of pvp being fun in WoW have been dead for quite some time, and I think that it would be very hard for them to get that aspect of the game back without a complete revamp, which I doubt will ever happen given their incredible success thus far. The thing that is so incredibly appealing about WAR to me is the massive emphasis placed on world pvp, which was the best aspect of WoW for a very long time. Along with completely new character classes and abilities and new content around every corner, I simply cannot find a reason to go back to playing WoW over playing WAR.

I think what Sif meant with being metaphorically kicked in the nuts was just with WoW. Primarily the PvP aspect. While trying to make the PvP better in WoW, all they have really done, imo, is made it worse. I'm actually a big fan of PvE too, but WoW's PvE was so sad it made me hurt. The game is really just mediocre all around.
Battlegrounds detracted severely from open world skirmishes, so much so that they hardly ever existed.
Now, I loved forcing people to AFK just as much as the rest of you, but that wasn't really fun.
BC was a HUGE kick in the nuts. Arenas made Battlegrounds stupid. Now they're trying to shift the focus back to Battlegrounds? Give me a break. WotLK is going to be an even bigger kick in the nuts for all you fags that have farmed your super sweet gear.
I'll stick with a company that has proven to have amazing PvP mechanics and actually knows WTF they're doing with it.

A company that you have know for... 1 month? I mean, how much can you really know about the future of the game from having played it for 1 month? Was anyone complaining about lack of content, about a fucked up pvp system, or anything it is that you consider WoW's flaws, 1 month after having started to play WoW? I know I wasn't, I thought the game was awesome, like you think WAR is now.
TBC really was a kick in the nuts in every aspect for me I think, the new honor farming system, the arenas stupidity, whatever, I thought the game got 10x worse with TBC. But I don't think Blizzard will be that incompetent twice, specially now that they have a solid competitor, so I'm giving it a shot, but I do think this will be much better than TBC. If its not, then ok, my mistake. But you can't claim now that WotLK will suck like TBC did, since I'm sure none of you have looked into even 20% of the changes that are going on.. I'd wait and see.

I was thinking the same thing myself when I read that rofl. Every MMO will do that, give me a break. And yes they are trying to shift the focus of pvp back to BG's and world pvp, as shown in Wintersgrasp. They said they want it to focus more on Horde vs Alliance like it used to be. They WILL deliver, eventually. Also, new classes in Warhammer? oh you mean the ones they took out along with 4 major cities? Not such a bad move business wise to take shit out and then add it in later when it should have been in release. Now I know you wont have to pay for it, but in general, most new games and developers are actually doing this on purpose and then hitting you a couple of weeks/months/even upon release with downloadable content that you have to pay for and is already in the fucking game. Thats a whole nother story.

meh, fine they took em out prerelease....
There are still a ton of classes out already and the maps are absolutely massive. You can argue that it should have been in the game already all you want, but as far as I am concerned, content is something they are not lacking right now. They don't have certain things in the game because they weren't up to the standard that they wanted them to be. It was called a beta for a reason, it is not fair to say that they should have everything in the release that they had in the beta, the beta is a completely separate entity than the released game. When you buy warhammer you know exactly what you are getting, anything that is added to the game after that is additional content, regardless of when it was developed. The way I see it, using the beta as an opportunity to test out some classes that they knew weren't going to be ready for release and using this experience to revamp them so they could be added later on is a sign of good product development. Blizzard has followed this same philosophy and releases quality products every time because of it, despite massive release setbacks. WAR is making sure that everything they add to the game has been thoroughly tested and will add to the value of the game, not subtract, this is why they have had the smoothest launch of any mmo ever released, including WoW.

this is fucking stupid anyway. they are both great games. wow took like 2.5 years out of my life and I met some of the coolest fucking people ever in it, even if they were stupid americans. i also sure as shit had fun playing it for most of that time.
warhammer dosen't have the polish that wow has it's true. but you can't tell me that after playing the game you can't see how much potential for totally awesome gameplay is in there. unfortunatley at the moment i just don't have the time to play either which triple sucks but what can you do?
they are both mmo's so the majority of the enjoyment that you are gonna get from the game is from the people you play it with.

They advertised those cities and classes for years and then took them out a month or 2 before release. They didnt even test those classes in beta if I remember correctly. I seriously wouldnt count out the whole taking stuff out to put in after release on purpose idea either, ESPECIALLY since EA got involved. But whatever, im probably going to steer clear of MMOs for now, oh shit that reminds me that the new Star Wars mmo is supposed to be announced tomorrow I think.
Also at DDan, ya the people you play with definatly makes any mmo more enjoyable. And another MMO with huge potential is Age of Conan, hopefully they get their shit together, fix the bugs, add the content, and in a year or 2 it will start to get back its subscribers. And dont tell me Conans combat system was shit, cause it wasnt. Still, best mmo ever created in my mind, Star Wars Galaxies. I find it funny that no MMO has copied galaxies proffesion system and player run economy yet.

i have no idea about conan so whotevz. it's kind of a moot point for me anyway cause i can't and won't play them anymore anyway.

Wait, wait, wait.
WoW: WOTLK has new content?
Can old content rehashed REALLY be called new content?
I'll be enjoying my PQ's, Keep Seiges, and fucking around with the other War Immunies.
Enjoy not earning experience for killing people.
MWUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Since when did Mudflation become the point of MMOs? I'll tell you when: WoW. They blew the entire system out of the water when TBC came out and they added the extra 10 levels. I guarantee the same thing is going to happen with WotLK.
Granted Mudflation is always going to be a side effect of new, higher end content, but it is one of the things that Blizzard has dealth with absolutely horribly.
And Joselito, Mythic also developed Dark Age of Camelot. I've known this company for a pretty good while and they always deliver.

I've always had an equally good time with PVE and PVP but I have the most fun doing things with groups of people, hooting and hollering on vent, and being absolutely as arrogant as possible.
Right now I'm playing with some old Chromaggus dudes on Illidan in WOW and I'm having fun with that, but I could just as easily be playing Warhammer on my new box. I'm just trying to decide over the next month what I want to play. It depends a lot on what everyone else wants to do too. If it was a month ago I'd be signing up for a Warhammer account right now but it sounds like you guys have really tapered off in the past few weeks. I log on vent sometimes and there's no one there at all. So I don't really want to sink $50 + a sub into a game if no one is going to be on to play. The PVP system looks tits in Warhammer but is the solo/group PVE any good? I played Guild Wars for awhile and that had a pretty great PVP system (which was subsequently pretty much ripped off by Blizzard to make Arenas), but the PVE game was shit. At the same time, the PVE in WOTLK looks really good but I honestly have no idea what direction they are taking the PVP in the game, if they have any direction at all. It looks like for the most part WOW will be the PVE MMO and Warhammer will be the PVP MMO, but I'm not going to sub and pay for two subscriptions.

I def agree with you, but I am pretty sure the t-train influence will be a major factor in swaying those who have not decided which game they want to play yet, be it towards WAR or WoW.

IGN: When it comes to fantasy MMORPGs, there's a perception within the gaming community that it's the same players getting into all these games. While that's true of some, it can't be the case for all. So in that sense, do you believe the release of Blizzard's Wrath of the Lich King expansion threatens your player base? If so, to what degree? Or is WAR, with its focus on realm versus realm combat over large scale player versus environment confrontations, something entirely different and a draw for a specific kind of player?
Quote
Mark Jacobs: WoW is the most successful MMORPG of all time and so we suspect that WotLK will of course have some effect on our subscriber base. We'd have to be deaf, dumb and blind not to expect that. On the other hand, we are in this for the long haul and once people burn through WotLK content, we expect them to begin looking for new challenges and new games. We look forward to that time very much.
I'll see you all in game in about 2-3 months lawl...
